Planet of the Apes/Green Lantern Sketch Cover Painting Stage 4

I started this stage by working on the Lantern symbol. I did’t like way the symbol was looking so went back and reworked it. Then I outlined the symbol with Faber-Castell PITT Artist Pens. From there I painted the lantern shape first and then the outside circle.  Next I painted the white area and then the shadows. Lastly I touched up the outline areas of the lantern symbol to finish up this stage.

Planet of the Apes/Green Lantern Sketch Cover Painting Stage 3

I started on this stage by outlining the right side neck and shoulder area with Faber-Castell PITT Artist Pens. Next I painted the green neck area first and then moved to the right shoulder. From there I moved on to painting the right side chest areas. With the right areas finished I moved to outlining the left side areas and then painted the left shoulder area and then painted the area just under the chest. Lastly I painted the left gauntlet to finish up this stage.

Hair Process

I started painting the hair with a medium brown first. Next I painted in the dark areas and then added in the lighter tones. Lastly I painted in the highlights and outlined the outer hair with Faber-Castell PITT Artist Pens.

PLANET OF THE APES GREEN LANTERN SKETCH COVER PAINTING STAGE 1

I was going through a box of blank sketch covers and came across a Green Lantern one. Finding it gave me the chance to paint a sketch cover inspired by Planet of the Apes/Green Lantern crossover graphic novel that I’ve been wanting to do for some time now, especially with the 1968 Planet of the Apes movie being one of my favorites. Below is the process to painting stage 1.

I started this stage by filling in the background area with Copic Black Marker. Then I masked off the logo area and figure. From there I took 1/2″ & 1″ cheap exterior house painting brushes and layered in the blue & black until the cloud effect was achieved. Next I used Liquitex free•style splatter brush to create the star field. Lastly I added burst and glow fx to various stars to finish off this stage.

THE CROW SKETCH CARD

I was going through my old artwork and came across a portfolio with some sketch cards I had painted and pencilled some years ago. Here’s one I painted featuring The Crow.

2020 TWISTED FATE STICKER DESIGNS

I’ve been wanting to get some stickers made of Nyx, the main character of the Twisted Fate story featured in the indie comic magazine Unique Realm Illustrated. So I decided to experiment with my silhouette cuter to see how they would look. Below are the samples I came up with. I’m excited to get some of these made very soon.

2020 PRINCE’S BIRTHDAY TRIBUTE ART

In honor of my life hero’s birthday, this year I decided to create a Purple Rain movie poster. I drew inspiration from the Mondo Posters and Alphonse Mucha art.

Happy 62nd Birthday Prince!

2020 STAR WARS DAY

May the 4th Be With You!

Star Wars means so many things to everyone. For me its a story about misfits uniting for the greater good, becoming family and ultimately about hope. Even in the darkest of times there is always light. There will be times you will feel beat down by life and only see a darkness everywhere. The darkness has a way of coating and fooling you so you don’t see things clearly. In order to see the light that is always there will at times require a guide to show you the way to seeing it again. This makes me think of the quote “The master will appear when the student is ready.”

This piece is a hybrid of traditional and digital art. Ahsoka was painted in 2017 as a donation piece to raise money for Extralife. The trooper helmet was recently created in Illustrator for this piece. I love mixing traditional and digital elements to achieve the final artwork.

Ahsoka has become one of my favorite characters. She’s had an amazing story arch from Clone Wars to Rebels. Looking forward to seeing what the Mandalorian adds to her story.

In what every way Star Wars inspires you, I hope you have a great day!!
